RISEN® 360 Degree Assessment

Overview

The purpose of this behavior-based interview is to assess leadership effectiveness as observed over a period of time. It assists leaders, teams and organizations in viewing their performance based on the values expressed by their individual and collective behaviors. The feedback given is used to support management and leadership training as well as process reengineering and business development. It may also be used for self-development insofar as it provides managers and leaders with key information they would otherwise find hard to obtain. The leader and/or organization being assessed gains confirmation of exhibited leadership and organizational strengths - qualities, actions and behaviors - as well as suggestions for further development in areas that are in need of improvement.

The RISEN 360 Degree Leadership Assessment© and the RISEN 360 Degree Organizational Values Assessment©, rates the following Five Dimensions of Leadership©:

  • Respect
  • Integrity
  • Stewardship
  • Ethics
  • Nobility

The Five Dimensions of Leadership© measure values tied to functional business practices. As an example, the word integrity means soundness or wholeness. The questions asked to assess this dimension relate to an individual's, team's or organization's ability to enact their vision and mission in day-to-day business practices. Insofar as an organization must be able to translate vision into mission and that eventually into profit, integrity within an organization is much more than the commonly understood definition of honesty and sincerity. It is a measure of an individual's, a team's or an organization's ability to succeed in it's strategic efforts, including meeting and exceeding operational goals presented by competition in an ever changing marketplace.

The ratings comprise the RISEN Score©, a numerical assessment of the individual's, team's or organization's leadership effectiveness. The RISEN Score© combines the cumulative values of each rated dimension and averages the total on a scale of 25-100.

The Assessment Process

RISEN 360 Degree Leadership Assessment©

The individual first completes a self-assessment, rating his or her performance on a series of specific behaviors. He or she then selects a number of colleagues from a variety of positions, e.g. his or her manager, peers, team members, and direct reports, to participate in the feedback process. Each selected person assesses the individual on his or her leadership effectiveness based on the same series of behaviors using a simple rating scale.

The feedback is summarized and collated for the individual as a set of reports. Each report is designed to emphasize a different aspect of the feedback such as strengths, development areas, and gap analyses.

Once the individual has received the reports and specific areas of improvement are identified, a developmental action plan is formulated in conjunction with his/her Leadership Development Coach and Manager. Only the individual and the coach see the actual data.

Though the process mirrors the RISEN 360 Degree Leadership Assessment© process, both assessments are customizable to the particular needs of the individual, team or organization, to best capture feedback pertinent for growth.
